Have you forgotten me?

You know how you haven’t seen a friend in so long that you don’t know what to say once you see them? It’s awkward and you talk about the weather or sports? Then there are those friends where you talk like you haven’t been apart for longer than a day? I hope you guys are the latter. I have been such a bad blogger lately. It’s gotten to the point where whenever I think about writing, I have no idea where to start! Where have I been? I got an invite to Ravelry. I finished the baby blanket. We went to another Beavers game. I cried because I missed my brothers. I received a RAK from the wonderful fujiyamamama. I started working part-time at a montessori until I find a job. I participated in the Knitters Tea Swap. I debated moving to Europe and becoming a vagabond. An elderly lady backed over Greg’s ankle at work. He got five stitches in his ankle. Greg’s aunt and uncle came into town for a week. We went to a memorial and spread the ashes at the coast. We went to four dinner/barbeques because family was in town. I wondered why in hell Paris Hilton was headline news. I went on a job interview. I watched The Fountain.

Whenever I felt like writing, I never get the peace and quiet I needed to do so…until now. Once I catch up in this post, it should be easier to post in the future. I just need to get a job and get out of this slump. Once I have a job I will feel much better about things. It’s hard to look on the good side when you can’t even support yourself.

Eyelet Baby Blanket

Project Info

Pattern: Eyelet Baby Blanket by Blue Sky Alpacas

Yarn: Knit Picks Swish Superwash in Wisteria. I couldn’t even tell you how many skeins.

Needles: US 11 and 10 Denise circs. The smaller size was used to pick up stitches for the ruffles.

Dimensions: Around 27″ x 26″

Pattern Modifications: I wanted a superwash yarn so I chose the Knit Picks. Then I found that the gauge didn’t match so I had knit it doubled. I picked up for the ruffles on the right side facing me (like Stitch ‘n Bitch told me to) and it didn’t match the picture on the pattern. So I guess my ruffles are inside out. ;) Whatever.

Time to knit: 4 or 5 months. What? Did you think that would be the only thing I knit?!

By the time this picture was taken, the baby outgrew the hat!

RAK

The blogless fujiyamamama knew I was feeling particularly homesick so she sent me a fabulous RAK. My favorite item in there is the palm tree. It’s sitting on my dresser next to the Florida postcard Discoknits sent me. I love the Aveda soap and the Lavender lotion as well! And that yarn!! I think it will be knit up into a My So-Called Scarf. Thank you soo much for cheering me up!

I will post my knitters tea swap package later. I had pictures of it on the camera but had to delete them when we were at the memorial and ran out of memory space. It’s too dark now so I will take more pictures tomorrow.

I love love love working at the montessori with the kids. Sure I’m only there for three hours in the afternoon when they’re running wild on the massive playground. Sure the people who work there are a little off. The kids make it worthwhile though. They really are fantastic. I will miss them greatly whenever I find a job.

I love the Oregon coast. Must invest in beach house.

It’s good to be back. :)

Color Choices

Good news. I just finished the last ruffle on the baby blanket. Now I just have to sew/seam it and mail it out! I’ll pray to the gods that it gets to her before she pops. Okay, at least before she gets home with the baby. Beggars can’t be choosers. ;) Hopefully I’ll be able to post pics by Tuesday.

A while ago I bought the Rusted Root pattern to be my next big knit. I decided that once I got to Oregon and finished the blanket, I would start something big for me. Well, I’m here and the blanket is practically done so I’m ready. I’ve been looking around trying to decide what color to knit this in. I think picking the color is the hardest part. I really think I want a red. In fact, I adore the Candy Apple. However there is a big sale on select colors here. When I first went to this site and saw the price, I thought to myself “Score!” Then I saw the colors and thought “Yuck!” The thing is, I can’t be too picky. Currently I am unemployed so unless I find a job tomorrow, which is highly unlikely because it’s going to be sunny so my butt will be outside soaking it up, I should stick to the cheap sale colors. Which of these colors do you like? I think Pine Green and Dusty Blue might have potential. How about we just cross our fingers that someone sees me outside tomorrow and decides to hire me based on my killer resume.

Since this post is coming along pictureless I think it’s time to introduce you to my kids.

It’s Swonderful

You Are Sunshine

Soothing and calm
You are often held up by others as the ideal
But too much of you, and they’ll get burned

You are best known for: your warmth

Your dominant state: connecting

What Type of Weather Are You?

I thought this was very suiting! As of yesterday we’ve been having the best weather ever! It makes care less about being unemployed.

I signed up for Knitters Tea Swap 3 the other day. I’m pretty excited about it. I love knitting and I love tea. What more could you want? In other swap news I’m hosting a quickie swap on the knittyboards. It’s a Harry Potter swap running during June to get everyone psyched for the new book and movie release. I hope alot of people participate and have fun!

I haven’t gotten to that last ruffle for my sister’s baby blanket yet. I started knitting Twiggy Tweed yesterday. I know, I know. What was I thinking?! I NEED to finish that blanket before my sister has a baby. Yesterday she said she would pay me good money to fly over and step on her stomach hard enough to pop the baby out! I’m telling ya, she’s miserable and ready to have this kid!

I got my invite for Ravelry today. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. Now I just need to add all of my knitting on there. Go sign up for an invite! You won’t regret it. :D

As you can tell, I seem to be doing better with being homesick. I think it’s the weather. I love the sun. We’re pals. We go waaay back. When it gets gray again, I’ll get depressed again. Nah, hopefully not. I got stung by what we think was a bee yesterday. No one saw it. I can tell you this much though, I hope it never happens again!

I have a question for you guys. I want to learn to sew. In order to do so, I’ll need a sewing machine. I don’t want to spend a billion dollars and I don’t want a cheap one either. I want it to be user friendly but have some good options. Do you have any suggestions?

May 4, 2007

Seriously?! It’s May!

What does this look like to you?

Hmm?

A little closer…

Yep, that’s hail. Freaking hail in May. This isn’t even that bad. I saw pictures on the news from just south of here where it looks like snow. The weather is crazy man, real crazy. ;D

I finished two projects. Sure they’re small projects but, projects nonetheless. I can’t churn out a sweater in two days so I stick to the small stuff for instant satisfaction. I knit these to take a break from my sister’s baby blanket. I have one ruffle left and the sewing/seaming to do. I think I still have some time though. It sounds like she’s right on track. She is one centimeter dialated and I’ve been told that she needs to get to ten. She’s due on the 15th. I guess if she doesn’t have the baby in two weeks from yesterday they’re going to induce her. These doctors don’t mess around anymore! Anyways, on to the FO’s!

a little hat modeled by the oh so cooperative Teddy

This is obviously for my future niece, Krista.

Project Info

Pattern: a little hat by stitch marker

Yarn: Patons SWS in Natural Pink, less than one skein

Needles: I started on US #10.5 Denise circs. Once I started decreasing I went down to US #7 Knit Picks dpns. Yeah, I know. I’m nuts.

Dimensions: Round, for a baby’s head ;D

Pattern Modifications: Well, you see that little rosette on Teddy’s lap? It’s suggested that you put two of those on the hat. I don’t think I’m going to put any on there. Too much of a pain in the butt. You have to sew it on. Yuck.

Time to knit: A couple hours.

Next up we have….

Dream Swatch Wrap

I love this wrap. It was so much fun to knit. You’re done with it in no time. As you can see in the first picture I had some rolling edges going on. I am soo pleased with this project. I have a problem with fabric headbands not fitting my head. They always slide off. Maybe I have a small head. This wrap is perfect though! It fits like a dream. I can see me making more in the future in different colors.

Project Info

Pattern: Dream Swatch Wrap by Wendy Bernard

Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport in Layette, almost one skein. This yarn was RAKed to me by fujiyamamama when I first joined the knittyboards. Thank you!

Needles: US #5 Denise circs. Being a loose knitter, I should have gone down to 4’s but, I don’t have any! :P

Dimensions: 4 inches wide and around 47 inches long

Pattern Modifications: None

Time to knit: three evenings (no blocking)

I wanted to share some pictures I took yesterday with you. They were all taken in the yard. I love our camera!

April 25, 2007

I moved.

It’s been so long. I’ve been so busy! Since the last post I packed up our apartment, hopped on a plane, visited Mass and NYC, and moved to Oregon. Woman of many talents. :D I’ll share some pictures of our little adventure.

The day before we got into Boston, it snowed in Worcester which is where we were going to be staying. It was sooo cold. I thought it would be nice weather. You know, spring..flowers..not snow and icicles.

Yeah. Purr-etty cold for a thin-blooded Floridian!

Here’s Greg, Jen, and I outside of Fenway. The day after we left to go to Oregon was Opening Day. Greg wanted to change our flights.

Everywhere we ate that day there was a line out the door. First up, lunch at Bartley’s in Cambridge. Mr. Bartley himself was sitting outside taking orders. This place is an institution. Delicious burgers. Later in the day, we went to Mike’s Pastry in the North End. I had some apple thing that was alright. It would have been better if it was warm. The cannoli’s however, were amazing. They ship anywhere in the US in case you were wondering. That night, we went to Sunset Bar & Grill in Brighton. They had over a hundred beers on tap. We waited outside for about an hour to eat there. Lots of lines for food that day. We stayed in Boston that night.

Then we went to New York for the weekend. We stayed with Greg’s cousin in Brooklyn. Our first night there we went Da Nico’s in Little Italy. By far, best meal of the trip! It was phenomenal. We went all out when we ate there. We got a bottle of wine, an appetizer, our entrees, and a cannoli for dessert. The waiter was amazing as well. Five stars. *****

This is Greg and I at his cousin’s office in Manhattan.

So after all this packing, moving, and visiting we’re exhausted and want to get to our new home. So, we hop on another plane and fly into Portland, OR. And yes, it was even cold here when we flew in. Since getting here we have settled in to our room at Greg’s parents place, gone to a Tulip Festival, gone to a Portland Timbers game, and just recently started looking for jobs.

Tulip Festival:

Timbers Game:

See that scarf around Greg’s neck? That’s the Irish Hiking Scarf I finished! I will get a better pic of him wearing it soon. It looks and feel great. Better yet, he loves it! First knitted item for Greg! Wait, here’s a semi better pic.

Now that we’re moved numero uno priority is to find a job. Pronto. My mom mailed out my box that has my sister’s baby blanket to me today. I need to finish that with the quickness because she’s due in a couple weeks! I’m going to be an aunt! I’ll also be posting more now that we’re settled. I hope no one went into withdrawls. ;D

The Test Results are in!

I’ve been at home sick since Friday. I haven’t left my apartment since I got home from work on Thursday. My fever peaked at 102.6 last night before it finally came down this morning. Why does everything go wrong at once?! Oh and I lost my thermometer last night. Ugh.Well, let’s get to what everyone’s been waiting for!

Trillian42 asked “Do you have any family in northeastern PA?”

No, as a matter of fact I don’t. However, when I was in fourth grade I did a report on Pennsylvania. All I remember about that was outlining the state and Hershey.

Turtlegirl76 asked “Just how dirty do you like your martinis?”

Grey Goose dirty martini extra olives. Whenever I want one, that’s how I order it. This is not my most picked drink though. I like my rum waaaay more than I like vodka. I think I drank too much vodka back in high school. (Yah, we party early down here)

Christy / Not Hip asked “When you learned “Little Bunny Foo-foo” what did the good fair turn bunny foo foo into?”

You know, I actually don’t remember. I called my mom to ask her and she doesn’t remember either. She told me to just make something up. Which, I think, is what we did. We would say whatever we thought was appropriate at the time. I looked it up online and it looks like the bunny is supposed to turn into a goon.

Stariel asked “I really do want to know what your favorite flavor of jelly is!”

Hmm, not a big jelly eater here. I absolutely hate soggy bread. So much that I won’t eat cereal with milk. It grosses me out! I don’t think I’ve had a peanut butter & jelly sandwich since I was a kid. Yes I know you can use jelly on toast as well but, I’m a butter gal.

“What’s the weirdest pet you ever had?”

I suppose the weirdest pet would have to be an iguana. I didn’t have him for too long though. There’s a really sad story for the iguana that I didn’t start sharing with people until the last couple years. I got this iguana 10-12 years ago. My mom hated it so, I had to keep him in my room. I thought he was the coolest thing ever. I think his name was Ziggy or Iggy or something of the likes. One night I kept him out of his cage. He was hanging out on the bed with me. Then something dreadful happened. I fell asleep and when I’m out, I’m out. Well, I woke up and rolled over and guess who was underneath me? The iguana. I suffocated him. I probably killed him alive. Poor thing. He was a different color. I was so freaked out that I put him in his cage and acted like he died in there overnight. Everyone just assumed that the change in environment got to him. That was my deep dark secret for the longest time.

Catherine asked “I would like to know what’s your favorite flavor jelly bean!”

Mine is watermelon as well! Peach and pear come in close behind though. My boyfriend and I are big Jelly Belly fans. We have a box of 50 different flavors that we dig through from time to time. I’ll try them all with the exception of black licorice, sours, and the Bertie Bott’s beans. Greg’s favorite is buttered popcorn.

Ladylungdoc asked “Where does the tag “JupiterJessica” come from?”

Well, my name is Jessica. I grew up in a small town on the water called Jupiter. Here’s another funny name, I lived on Love Street. That’s actually where I met Greg. We met on Love Street in Jupiter. Nice, huh?

Bezzie asked “Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?”

You know, I’ve been wondering this myself. I think it has something to do with the bees. You know how they like to get together! If it’s not the bees, it’s got to be that damn bluebird on my shoulder. It’s the truth, it’s “actch’ll”
Everything is “satisfactch’ll.”
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay,
Wonderful feeling, feeling this way!

Back at cha!

Knit Mongrel asked “What was your favorite book as a kid?”

That is a hard one. From what I can remember, I was in love with Anne of Green Gables. I had the whole collection at one point. I left it at a school I went to when I moved. I was sooo mad. I also loved The Secret Garden. In middle school I read a lot of the Goosebumps books. In high school I loved Julius Ceasar and the Harry Potters. Recently, it’s The Time Traveler’s Wife. Of course when I was a kid I also read the Baby Sitter’s Club, those boxcar kids, and whatnot but Anne had my heart.

Weezalana asked “If money were no object, and the law weren’t around, what’s the first thing you would do?”

Hmm, right off the top of my head I thought of getting rid of religion. I was pulling John Lennon with some Imagine there. However, I think I would get into the Secret Archives at the Vatican and share everything they’re hiding with the public. Can you imagine the wealth of knowledge that’s holed up in a huge library with 30 miles of shelves?!

Nicole asked “What’s your favorite comic strip?”

Easy peezy lemon squeezy! It’s Calvin & Hobbes!! That is a family classic. We have all the books. I remember sitting around crying in laughter reading those comics. Classic.

Bobbi asked “What’s your favorite pizza topping?”

When I was a kid I would only get mushrooms and black olives. My topping choices have expanded a bit since then. I really don’t think I have a favorite topping anymore since now pizzas are all so different. You can get barbeque, white, meat lovers, veggie, asian, etc.

“What type of knitting needles do you prefer?”

My friend got me the Denise set for Christmas and I love them! When I’m not using them, I use Clover Nakumi Bamboo needles.

“Do you prefer to write with pen or pencil?”

Blue ink only.

“Do you like V8?”

No. When I was younger I had the idea for a drink called F8. It would be like V8 but with fruits. A couple years later they came out with V8 Splash. Yeah, I was slightly pissed.

“What’s the story with the huge hat you’re wearing in your WordPress Avatar?”

I was at the mall with my friend. She was shopping for sunglasses and taking FOR-EVER!! So, I wandered over to the ridiculously huge elderly lady hat section. I started trying on the most ridiculous hats I could find. My friend came over and joined me and we took a few pictures. The sunglasses lady must have thought we were crazy but it was fun so who cares right?

Shannon asked “What was your favorite song to sing when you were little?”

Umm…..I don’t know. The first song I can remember singing was Love Shack in the back of my mom’s car. My sister and I used to love the Little Mermaid Soundtrack. We also loved singing Bette Midler’s Ms. Otis Regrets. Oh, remember that Dick Tracy movie? We used to always sing Madonna’s songs fromt that movie. I always used to sing You Are My Sunshine to my older younger brother. Quite an interesting mix, huh?

Discoknits asked “How did you meet your Greg? Was it love at first sight?”

You know, as corny as it sounds, it was. Greg moved in next door to me. Remember, on Love Street? Greg lived there for a couple months before I even realized he was there. I had a boyfriend at the time. When I saw Greg I knew there was something about him and that I had to know him. I broke up with my bf. I was single for a while. During this time, Greg and I would always try to talk to eachother from our own respective yards. This never went well because we could never hear one another. I even went as far as to go over to his house and ask to borrow tape! One night we ended up going on a walk to the beach. I was talking so much that night. Greg wasn’t really talking at all. I had no idea why he wasn’t talking. A couple of days later, after not hearing from him, I called him and learned that he had his wisdom teeth pulled the day after the walk and was in immense pain that night! Hence, the reason he wasn’t talking. I guess it’s all history from there. Over three years later and I’m moving across the country with him!

Chemgrrl asked “So if you were going to knit yourself some underwear, what kind of yarn would you use?”

Hmm, it would have to be something that doesn’t shed or itch. Something I would enjoy knitting with. I guess I would have to pick a nice silk.

Sillyrabbit asked “I want to know what your favorite kind of cake is.”

Hmm, I guess a basic vanilla cake with a butter cream frosting. I don’t like thick sugary frostings. I think I’m more of a cupcake gal. Ooh, maybe a cheesecake!

Penny Karma asked “What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to”

Seeing Billy Joel was pretty rad. Green Day was cool as well. I think I had the most fun seeing The Academy is… and Panic! At the Disco though. It was a small venue. I had never heard of the bands but, my friend was a die hard fan. We drank a little too much, had great memories, and got to hang out with the bands afterwards on the bus. I know, it sounds scandalous but is wasn’t. Everyone was just hanging out drinking and talking. I must say though, I wasn’t drinking on the bus because my friend was drinking enough for the both of us and I needed to drive.

“The best book you’ve ever read?”

The last great book I read was The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Maybe it’s just my fascination with time travel. Sometimes it aggravates the hell out of me that I can’t time travel. I know, it’s one of my quirks.

“The best movie you’ve ever seen?”

The last great movie I had the pleasure of watching was Children of Men. Wow. That movie was amazing. That movie changed me. It doesn’t hurt that Clive Owen was in it either! ;)

“What’s your sister going to name her baby?”

Krista. I can’t remember the middle name. I think it might be Jessica. :D

KnitMommy asked “If you could only have 1 kind of yarn to use for the rest of eternity what would it be??”

Well, I still consider myself a newbie knitter so I haven’t had the pleasure of trying a lot of yarns. I have enjoyed using Malabrigo, DB Alpaca Silk, DB Cashmerino Superchunky, and RY Cashsoft Baby DK. So, if you could roll all of those into one, that’s what I would use.

Westozcaat asked “What would be your ultimate holiday destination? You can have a couple.”

Without question, backpacking through Europe. I’d also like to visit Asia and Australia. Of course we can’t forget the Happiest Place on Earth, Disney World. Do you want to know how I taught myself that Disney World is in Florida and Disney Land is in California? World is bigger than Land. I live in Florida. I just had to remember that World is bigger and better and that’s where I’m from! :D

Using this random number generator a winner was chosen.

 DISCOKNITS!!!!

Now disco, is there anything in particular you’d like to get your hands on? I’ll search through my stash for something that will make you one happy lady!

Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to end this post here and go back to the couch where I will lay miserably… ;)

Busy Busy Bee

Have I dropped off the face of the Earth? Why yes, I think I have. Blogging earth anyways.

Last week my friend who recently moved to Massachusetts was in town with her boyfriend. So was Greg’s friend from the Navy who lives in Tennessee. I don’t think I got to bed at a decent hour that whole week. I don’t have many good pics from this week as they were taken by the guests. Here are some anyways.

Jen hit a curb and blew out the tire for her rental. It was quite funny. This is her and her boyfriend, Andy, changing out the tire.

Here is Greg and his friend Paul talking about the wonders of the Rubix cube.

Greg left to go to Oregon for his dad’s big 60th Birthday Bash on Thursday. I couldn’t attend this because I had baby showers to attend for my sister. Paul left Thursday as well. Jen and Andy left Friday. Then I was all alone. It was pitiful. When you sleep next to someone for over three years and all of a sudden they’re not there, it’s hard. I got used to it though. I was too busy not to sleep. Saturday I went to a baby shower for my sister that her dad’s wife threw. I got to see alot of my relatives that I haven’t seen in years. All of my cousins have grown up soo much. My grandmother on my mom’s side went as well. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be with her there. She is a mean woman. I brought the baby blanket to the shower incomplete so everyone could see it. It was a big hit. My family was impressed with my knitting skills. ;)

Sunday I threw a surprise shower for my sister that her friends attended. It was super laid back. We all met at a restaurant on the water and had lunch. Megan, my sis, thought she was going to be meeting my mom, my aunt, and I for lunch. I think she was pleasantly surprised! She really made out that weekend. She received soooo much stuff from everyone. I think she opened presents for about an hour at the first shower!

Here’s my sister and I. She kept throwing up gang signs and it was pissing me off so this picture is me trying to fix the situation. Don’t mind the red eye….I’m that lazy right now.

Notice something different about that picture? Yes, I got bangs. I’ve been told I have balls because of this! I’ve also been told that I look 10 years younger. I’m not sure how to take either of those comments.

I told my work today that I was officially moving. Surprisingly enough they took it quite well. They’re sad to see me leave (who wouldn’t be, right?) but they’re happy for me. This took a load off my mind. I have 3 1/2 weeks to pack up/sell the contents of my apartment and train someone new at work. My blog posts might be scarce but I will try to update. I think until after I move I’m going to have to lay off on the Friday Yarn Pron. I have alot of stress and I don’t want the pressure of posting pics every Friday. However, I will post yarn pron when I’m able to. I guess what I’m saying is come to my blog anyways; maybe the pron will be there, maybe not.

Needless to say, I have done ZERO knitting in the past week or so. Nada, Nilch, Zip. Do you feel my pain? Do you want to come move for me so I can sit in a hammock and knit? Nah, I didn’t think so. Another hobby I haven’t been doing much of is reading. I have two books that I have to finish, The Historian and Wicked. I don’t know why but, I haven’t picked them up in a while. Knowing this I went and picked up a new book today, The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier. Can we say wow? I’m only on page 16 and I’m enthralled in it. Even though I’m not really into the meat of the book yet, I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a good read.

So, I saw this on numerous people’s blogs and had to do it because it’s just too funny!

Your Celebrity Boob Twin:

Carmen Electra

Who’s Your Celebrity Boob Twin?

You know how you have blogs that you frequent? Blogs that you read all the time. Bloggers that you get to know through their posts. Have you ever wondered random things about them? What’s their favorite jelly? What would they like to be in another life? Why do they like Noro?! I do and I thought it would be fun if I gave you the opportunity to ask me whatever you wanted. I’ll compile all of the questions and answers in my next post for your nosy reading pleasure. To make it even more fun, I’ll put all the people who asked a question into a hat and randomly pick a winner! We’ll make it a little contest. I’ll pull something fabulous out of my stash and send it to you! Good luck!!

Lazy Daze

Busy weekend here. Actually, I have a very busy next month or so so forgive me if I don’t blog as often. I have friends coming in town, packing, baby showers, more packing, and moving.

I saw this survey on a couple people’s blogs. As much as I don’t want to do it, I love music. Coincidentally I’m adding music to my ipod today so, what the hell.
